The Council of Ministers urged the world to take "decisive measures" to end the continuing bloodshed in Syria. The statement followed the Cabinet review of major international developments, especially the worsening security situation in Syria and international efforts to contain the situation.
"The Kingdom calls on the international community to take decisive measures to stop... the mass slaughter" of the Syrian people, the official SPA news agency quoted the Cabinet as saying.
“The Syrian regime should be forced to stop these massacres and implement the peace plan of the UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan to achieve a political solution to the crisis, meeting the hopes and aspirations of the Syrian people,” the Cabinet said, adding that the plan should be implemented within a specific period. President Bashar Assad's regime "must immediately end the massacres and fully implement the... (UN) plan aimed at reaching a political solution in line with the aspirations of the Syrian people," it said.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting.
The Cabinet called for a "fixed timeframe" for the implementation of UN-Arab League peace plan.
