JEDDAH: The Samahang Pinoy Tennis Club, SPTC, launched its initial and year-opening tennis activities at the King Abdulaziz University Sports Complex in conjunction with its goodwill send-off games being conducted in honor of one of their former chairman who is leaving Saudi Arabia.
Dubbed as Cesar Pabico Farewell Cup, this goodwill tournament “will upstart a series of club tournaments and fun games” according to newly-elected SPTC chairman, Ariel Domingo, which are lined-up for year: In-house Tournament (April-May), Philippine Independence Goodwill Games, Summer Challenge, and Year-end in-house Tournament”.
Thirty-six players joined the formal games, which follow the standard team tennis tournament that fix the match ups within different players categories such as Legends (highly-rated 60 years old and above), B2+, B2/C, and C. Two (2) groups, named Team “Kapilya” and Team ‘Kapuso”, compete in best of 3 rounds, with each round summarizing the total game scores of each group – and that determines the round winner under the Point System rule, or the team that gets the higher total number of games won is the round winner. The team that wins 2 out of 3 rounds shall be declared the winner of the competetion.
In the first round, Team Kampamilya beat Team Kapuso 62-52.
