Americana in winning start; Afia, Almarai, Geec-Fuji, Omnic impress

JEDDAH: Americana opened defense of its title with an 84-82 victory over NFIC-Luna Milk as action well full blast with six games during the second week in the Modon (Industrial City Property Management) Basketball Tournament 2016 at the Industrial Plaza basketball court on the outskirts of Jeddah
To kick off the second week hostilities Thursday was the Inter-Company Bonafide Group A game between Afia and Arabian Chemicals. Afia easily won by 67-49, as eventual Best Player of the game Dumanacal sprayed 29 points to go with 12 by Navarro and 9 by Bojos.
Dumanacal was the newest recruit by Afia, and he did not disappoint shooting 50 % of his output right in the first quarter with his team’s offense built around him. Afia dominated he entire game.
Also making impressive debut were Almarai Company in Inter-Company Bonafide Group A, Geec-Fuji in Inter-Company Bonafide Group C and Omnic Ocas in Inter-Company Reinforced Group B.
Almarai, playing tremendous game against newcomer Al Hurafi team, hammered out a 58-42 victory in the first game Friday. Gregory was named Best Player while leading Almarai on 14 points.
Veteran and Best Player Erickson Mabarit shot 23 points while Pariña and Gaviola added 13 and 12 as Geec-Fuji defeated Caravan 81-70.
In Friday’s nighcap, Omnic Ocas rolled back Samahang Ilocano 94-88, with Winston Abella as the Best player on a 33 points. Malabanan added 28 points and Bautista 9 for Omnic.
Rookie Manalastas blended well with last year’s MVP Patling as the duo led Americana on 22 and 20 points respectively.
The Luna Milk game unraveled in the last three minutes of the last quarter with almost all of its key players in foul trouble, and Americana took advantage to score the win.
In the other game Gilas Surigao crushed Corinthian 81-50 in Inter-Company Reinforced Group A.
Perfetto Pasta (Saudi Modern Foods Factory) is the major sponsor of the tournament and the five months long event enjoys special support from Industrial City Dawah Office, Enjaz Banking Services, Hempel Paints, Pablo Nesperos, Al Haddaf Sportswear, Combibo Catering, Caravan Advertising and Arab News.
With President Mansour Eric Abrantes and Commissioner Rey Jordan Lofamia in ISA Committee that will run the tournament are Treasurer Egay Magnaye, Secretary Alot Villafuerte, Public Relations Officers Goody Viagedor/Pablo Nesperos, photographer Jay-R Juliano and committee members Phip Estacio,Ramon Arches, Marlon Labasan, Dennis Bulactial, Jun Sunido, Abe De Guzman, Joel Abrantes, Eddie Boy and Toto Pamplona.
