Looking For Off Campus Housing Umn

By Peter Harris

When students are accepted by universities to further their studies, many will have to leave the family home and find their own accommodation. A lot of modern universities will have student houses on site but the places are very limited. If you are looking for off campus housing umn there are a few things to consider and some careful research to be done.

The first thing to do is to calculate your monthly budget and work out if the accommodation is going to be affordable. A one bed studio style flat will cost in the region of 600 dollars per month which includes some kitchen appliances and furniture. A three bed house will come in at 1500 dollars but bear in mind that your water, gas and electric bills will be charged according to how much you use.

One of the best places to search for a place to live is at the university itself. Most will have advertising boards displaying details of empty properties that are available to rent. It can be worth chatting with your friends and fellow students to see if they can help you with your search and guide you in the right direction.

It is often a struggle for new students to budget their money when first away from the family home and many will take on extra work to pay the bills. A simple solution to this problem is to take a bigger property and share it with someone else who is studying at the university. This is a sensible way as it enables all of the rental costs and utility bills to be split equally.

Before you make a commitment to renting your accommodation it can be worth taking time to think about the additional costs of furnishing. Fully furnished properties are available but will be a lot more expensive and the majority will be part furnished. Another key thing to remember is that the first months rent will be doubled as it will include your damage deposit.

The majority of complexes that offer accommodation will have facilities that are included in your monthly rent payment. Swimming pools and study areas are often available as well as computer rooms with free internet access. Facilities such as bars and cafes are often on site but you will have to pay for these if you decide to use them.

One major advantage of many sites is the location and easy access to the university. Many complexes will be within walking distance so you will not have to use public transport and this will save a few dollars. Some universities will provide free bus to certain parts of town and it is worth checking this out when you are searching for a place.

One very important thing to think about is the length of the tenancy that is offered. Most will offer a six or twelve month lease but some may offer longer depending on company policy. Some longer term tenancies are worth considering as a discount may be available if you are paying the whole years rent in a lump sum.
